Beef and spinach gozleme

Beef and spinach gozleme is a famous and delious recipe. Traditional Turkish savory pastries called gozleme are created from thin, unleavened dough that is filled with a variety of toppings and griddle-cooked. Gozleme is frequently filled with beef and spinach. To make this filling, heat diced beef and spinach in a pan until the beef is fully cooked and the spinach has wilted. 

The filling can then be flavor-added to taste with herbs and spices like cumin, paprika, and garlic powder. Put a spoonful of the beef and spinach filling onto a round of dough, fold the dough over the filling to make a half-moon shape, and seal the edges to assemble the gozleme.

Cook the gozleme until the dough is crispy and golden brown on both sides on a griddle or in a pan over medium heat. Enjoy your gozleme warm with a serving of yogurt or sour cream and fresh herbs.

Here are the ingredients you will need to make beef and spinach gozleme:

For the dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

For the filling:

  • 1/2 lb beef, diced
  • 4 cups chopped spinach
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • salt and pepper to taste

You will also need additional olive oil for cooking the gozleme. Optional garnishes include herbs (such as parsley or mint), yogurt, and sour cream.

Instructions:

  1. To prepare beef and spinach gozleme, follow these steps:
  2. In a mixing basin, combine the flour and salt to make the dough. When a smooth dough starts to form, add the water and olive oil and stir. On a lightly dusted surface, knead the dough for 5 to 7 minutes, or until it is smooth and elastic. For 20 to 30 minutes, cover the dough with a moist cloth and leave it aside to rest.
  3. Make the filler in the interim. Over medium heat, warm a tablespoon of olive oil in a pan. Add the beef dice and heat it until it is evenly browned.
  4. The beef and spinach should be combined in a pan. Sauté the spinach until it wilts.
  5. To taste, add cumin, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to the beef and spinach mixture. Turn off the heat and remove the contents from the pan.

  6. Create 8 equal pieces of dough. Create a narrow circle with each piece that is 6 to 8 inches in diameter.
  7. Each dough circle should have a tablespoon of the meat and spinach filling in the center. To create a half-moon shape, fold the dough over the filling and press the sides together to seal.
  8. In a griddle or sizable pan, heat a tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Gozleme should be cooked in a pan for 3 to 4 minutes on each side, or until the dough is crispy and golden.
  9. With the remaining dough and filling, repeat the procedure.  Enjoy!
