Ingredients
- 1 lb. phyllo dough (can be found in the frozen section of most grocery stores)
- 1 cup melted butter or olive oil
- Filling of your choice (some popular options include spinach and feta, ground meat and vegetables, or sweet fillings like Nutella and banana)
Instructions
- Begin by thawing the phyllo dough according to package instructions.
- While the dough is thawing, prepare your filling. Spinach and feta filling can be made by sautéing a chopped onion until translucent, adding spinach, and cooking until wilted. Feta cheese can then be crumbled and added to the mixture. For a meat filling, brown ground beef or lamb in a pan, and then add diced vegetables like tomatoes, onions, and peppers. Season with salt, pepper, and any other spices you prefer.
- Once the dough is thawed, you can begin layering it. Take one sheet of phyllo dough and brush it with melted butter or olive oil. Place another sheet on top, and brush it with butter or oil as well. Repeat this process until you have used about 6-8 sheets of dough.
- Spoon your filling onto the layered dough, leaving about 2 inches of space around the edges.
- Carefully fold the edges of the dough over the filling, enclosing it inside.
- Brush the top of the gozleme with butter or oil, and then place it on a preheated griddle or pan over medium heat.
- Cook the gozleme for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until it is golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from heat and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
