Russian Beef Stroganoff Recipe

Russian Beef Stroganoff Recipe is much more than what it was portrayed to be in the 1950s and 1960s. In order to create an exquisite yet simple dish, we’ve combined fragrant mushrooms and delicate meat in our simple yet traditional Russian Beef Stroganoff recipe.

A straightforward and hearty Russian meal called stroganov (or stroganov) is made of sautéed beef pieces that are served in a sour cream sauce.

It was established in the middle of the 19th century and is named after a member of the Stroganov family, which included the most prosperous businessmen in Tsarist Russia and a group of highly successful Russian landowners and merchants.

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp salted butter
  • 9 oz button mushrooms
  • 1 thinly sliced onion
  • 1 lb sirloin steak
  • 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 c beef broth
  • ½ tsp ground mustard seed
  • 1 Tbsp tomato paste
  • ½ c sour cream
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a  skillet, heat the butter. Saute the mushrooms in the butter over medium high heat for 2 minutes. Take  the mushrooms from the pan . 
  2. Add the remaining 1 Tbsp butter to the pan and heat until melted. 
  3. Toss the beef chunks with the flour and add them to the saute pan. Cook until browned, 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the beef broth, mustard powder, and tomato paste to the saute pan.

  5. Simmer the mixture over medium heat for 10-15 minutes, until the beef  cooked to your liking.
  6. Place the sour cream into a small bowl and mix a little of the broth from the skillet with the sour cream to warm it. Pour the warmed sour cream mixture into the saucepan and mix to combine.
  7. Taste the stroganoff and add the salt and pepper, to taste.
  8. Serve the stroganoff alongside potatoes, rice, or noodles, of your choosing.
  9. Warm the sour cream by adding a small amount of the skillet’s liquid to the container you’ve put it in. Warm the sour cream mixture, then add it to the pot and stir to blend.
  10. After giving the stroganoff a taste, season with salt and pepper.
  11. You can serve the stroganoff with your choice of potatoes, rice, or noodles.
